Our Minds Distort Our Mirrors

Have you heard about body dysmorphic disorder? It causes you to see your reflection as hideous instead of what you really look like. It’s a true case of the mind distorting the reflection.

Mirrors are just glass and you are more than that.

Learning how to build healthy self-esteem can help you stop focusing on your physical appearance and become more body-positive.

Mindfulness

Step Out Of Autopilot For A Mindful Break.

Have you ever arrived at a destination without remembering how you got there? This happens when we operate on autopilot, lost in our thoughts and not fully present in the moment. Tara Brach, a meditation teacher, calls this a virtual reality, the opposite of Mindfulness.

To cultivate mindfulness, pause and focus on your breath. Observe a few inhales and exhales. This can help you become aware of when you’re operating on autopilot. Ask yourself if there’s something you may be avoiding by visiting this virtual reality. It’s okay if you don’t immediately have a solution; the first step is recognizing what you’re avoiding.

Compliment yourself for taking the time to listen to your own wisdom.

Being honest with yourself and recognizing when you’re avoiding important issues in your life is essential. Take the time to create space and listen to your own wisdom.

Be mindful. Be aware.

Hugging Is Good For Mental Health

Hugging is good for mental health.

Studies confirm that touch has many important health benefits. Physical touch, such as hugging, is known to activate the release of the hormone oxytocin and reduces cortisol levels leading to decreased anxiety, stress and depression. It also boosts the immune system and helps to maintain one’s mental health. Touch stimulates our brain and is important for normal growth and development.

Remember touch is essential and there is no substitution for a great big hug! As author and family therapist Virginia Satir once said, “We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth”.

Let’s break the chaos. Cuddle more.

Believe In Yourself

Believe in yourself.

Our beliefs are a culmination of what we accept and what we do not. They are a summary of our predominant thoughts and experiences. If we believe we are able to do a particular thing, we will consciously and often and unconsciously act to achieve it.

A belief is not a notion or a thought or an idea. It’s 100 percent agreement that something is true for us. If we believe that something will occur, we will ensure it does, because we also like being right.

John Davidson writes in his book, ‘A concentrated mind is able to control physical matter and manipulate the law of nature. This is how the miracles associated with yogis and holy men are performed. It is also the means by which paranormal phenomena take place. All spiritual practices entail concentration of the mind, whether it is prayer, meditation, telling of beads or some other technique.’

Self-awareness

Self-awareness

Do you want to be happier, have more influence, be a better decision-maker, and be a more effective leader? Self-awareness, then, is the most important muscle you need to develop. It’s what will keep you on target to be the best a version of yourself and the best leader you can be.

Psychologists Shelley Duval and Robert Wicklund proposed this definition:
Self-awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and how your actions, thoughts, or emotions do or don’t align with your internal standards. If you’re highly self-aware, you can objectively evaluate yourself, manage your emotions, align your behaviour with your values, and understand correctly how others perceive you.”

Benefits of Self-awareness

Here are some examples of common benefits of self-awareness:

~It gives us the power to influence outcomes.
~It helps us to become better decision-makers.

~It allows us to understand things from multiple perspectives.
~It frees us from our assumptions and biases.
~It helps us build better relationships.
~It gives us a greater ability to regulate our emotions.
~It decreases stress.
~It makes us happier.
